Sunglasses provide you with a unique combination of eye protection from damaging UV rays, help prevent eye injuries, enhance visual performance and fashion. If you wear prescription eyeglasses, but don't wish to purchase a pair of prescription sunglasses, you might want to consider purchasing a pair of eyeglasses with photochromic lenses. These lenses are transparent while indoors, but darken once you go outside and they are exposed to UV light.
UV light can cause significant damage to your eyes and lead to serious eye problems, such as retinal damage and the development of cataracts. You should wear UV-blocking eyewear even if the weather is cloudy or rainy. Although the day is not sunny your eyes will still be exposed to UV light from the sun.
Goggles, safety glasses, shooting glasses and ski goggles are just a few examples of the different types of protective eyewear that are available with sunglass lenses. If you are participating in an outdoor activity where glare is an issue (fishing), you might want to purchase sunglasses with polarized lenses. Polarized lenses filter out reflected light, enabling you to enjoy your outdoor experience without discomfort from intense light.
Performance in certain sports can be boosted if you have a certain lens color tint. The color you should tint your sport sunglass lenses depends on the lighting conditions and environment of the sport in which you are participating. For example, if you are a snowboarder you might wish to have yellow tinted lenses because they filter blue light for enhanced focus and increases contrast in low-light and sunny conditions.
New sunglass frames are released in several different styles and materials every "season". The price range is drastic and can get very high for a pair of designer sunglasses, but that does not mean you have to sacrifice quality for a stylish, less expensive pair.
Prescription sunglasses are available with basic to high prescriptions and in many fashionable frames. In the past few years, prescription sunglasses have become more widely available in the optical marketplace. There are a variety of lens choices to fit most frames, including polarized sunglasses.
